The Education Justice Project provides higher education to those who are incarcerated. Their students, most of whom have been incarcerated for 10 to 20 years, are usually forgotten by society. This campaign was particularly challenging because there are many stigmas surrounding incarcerated people. Many people believe that those who go to prison aren’t capable of changing. They often look for physical indicators as proof of change or “transformation.” For this campaign, we wanted to challenge people’s perceptions, and demonstrate that the change that occurs in EJP’s students is not skin-deep. Rather, it is a mental and emotional change that occurs within. To execute this concept, we used identical side-by-side images to demonstrate a change that has happened within.
